The Morton Margolin Prize for Distinguished Business Reporting The University of Denver School of Communication and the Denver College of Business present this prestigious award annually to recognize outstanding reporting on Colorado businesses or its economy. The work should exemplify thoroughness, imagination, clarity of thought and the ability to make the subject interesting and understandable to the general public. The award recognizes noteworthy reporting that is timely, accurate, skillfully researched, and written in such a way as to bring new insight and understanding to the general public. Articles entered for consideration must reflect high standards, competency, and integrity. They must illuminate the topic's significance, provide in-depth analysis, or open up new concerns. The entry should emphasize a Colorado angle and cover firms, people, and/or trends in the state, and must have been published in a Colorado newspaper or magazine. A $1,000 cash prize and a plaque are awarded. Judges include members of the faculty of the Daniels College of Business and the School of Communication at the University of Denver. Morton Margolin received many awards, including a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize, during his 35-year career as a journalist with the Rocky Mountain News and Colorado Business Magazine, among other publications. His series of news stories exposing controversial U.S. reclamation projects in the Riverton, Wyo. , area in 1952 won him that nomination. See previous Business Journalism recipients |
